The Los Angeles Chargers opens the 2022 regular season at home and will host the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday afternoon. These teams faced twice each other last season where the Raiders beat the Chargers 35-32 in Las Vegas and the Chargers beat them 28-14 in LA.

Las Vegas Raiders

The Raiders had a good season last year ending with a 10-7 record making it to the playoffs but lost against the Cincinnati Bengals. During the offseason the team went through some changes like their new head coach Josh McDaniels who was the offensive coordinator for Bill Bellichik and the Patriots for 14 non-consecutive seasons. He was present in all six of their titles during the Brady–Belichick era.

Offensively, the team averaged 22 points per game recording 4,567 passing yards and 1,617 rushing yards. This offense is leaded by their star quarterback Derek Carr who registered 4,804 passing yds, 23 touchdowns and 14 interceptions with a 58.4% in passes completed ranking 14th in the NFL. This year the offense received a big boost after acquiring Davante Adams from the Green Bay Packers who was the highest-graded wide receiver of the 2021 regular season with 1,553 yds, 11 td and 12.6 yds average per play. Adams will be Derek Carr's most dangerous arm along with Hunter Renfrow and Darren Waller.

Defensively, the team ranked #20 in the NFL allowing an average of 25.8 points per game last season. This was the biggest problem for the Raiders last year and the thing is they did not reinforce the defense so expect them to continue struggling on this department.

Los Angeles Chargers

The Chargers had disappointing year last season as they ended up with a 9-8 record and 5-4 at home but they should be better this season as they have a franchise quarterback in Justin Herbert and an incredibly strong receiving corps.

Offensively, the team averaged 27.9 points per game #4 in the NFL and recorded 4,800 passing yards and 1,834 rushing yards last season. The young quarterback Justin Herbert was one of the best in the NFL with 5,014 yards, 38 tds and 15 interceptions with a 70.9 QBR #3 in the league. His best arms are Austin Ekeler who had 1,558 yards and 20 touchdowns. Keenan Allen and Mike Williams are back, who had over 1,000 yards each last season.

Defensively, this team had their struggles allowing an average of  27 points per game last season. This year, they signed Khalil Mack to partner with Joey Bosa to strengthen the pass rush, as well as to the interior defensive line to improve the run defense and J.C. Jackson to the secondary. They also signed Derwin James to the largest safety contract in NFL history.

Las Vegas are 4-1 SU in their last 5 games.

Las Vegas are 4-2 ATS in their last 6 games against LA Chargers.

Las Vegas are 4-2 SU in their last 6 games against LA Chargers.

The total has gone OVER in 4 of LA Chargers' last 6 games against Las Vegas.

The total has gone OVER in 6 of LA Chargers' last 7 games at home.

These will be two of the best offensive teams in the league so expect fireworks on this game. With Davante Adams in the team the Raiders are looking so much dangerous but the defense should give them trouble again. On the other hand the Chargers made some great movements in defense as the offense didn't need any changes. They're the #4 offense in the league. The Chargers are the more balanced team and have the home field advantage but this Raiders offense is scary so I expect a high scoring game and a close one. I like the Raiders to cover the spread but the best play is the over.

PICK: Over 52 (-110)
