The Texas Tech Red Raiders and the Texas Longhorns will meet for the 71st time this weekend at DKR Stadium. Both schools enter off of dominant victories over Conference USA teams.
Tyler Shough's career in Lubbock has gotten off to a nice start. The former Oregon Duck had a phenomenal performance against FIU last weekend, going 26-35 for 399 passing yards and four touchdown passes.
Tahj Brooks has a pair off 100-yard rushing games this season, and he went for 47 yards last week on 5.2 yards per carry. Erik Ezukanma caught seven passes for 179 yards in the opener against Houston, and he brought in six passes for 144 yards and a touchdown against Stephen F. Austin. Senior tight end Travis Koontz caught two touchdowns in the win over FIU.
Casey Thompson will likely start over Hudson Card going forward. The junior dual-threat quarterback played an efficient game against Rice, going 15-18 for 164 passing yards with two touchdowns to one interception.
Bijon Robinson is the focal point of the Longhorns offense. He's coming off of his strongest performance of the young season, going for 127 yards on 13 carries with three scores. Robinson has ran for 299 yards and six total touchdowns through three games. Jordan Whittingham and Xavier Worthy line up on the outside for the Longhorns. Whittingham had a strong game against Louisiana-Lafayette, catching seven passes for 113 receiving yards, including a 41-yard touchdown. Worthy caught seven passes for 88 yards against Rice, including a 31-yard score.
Texas Tech has forced two turnovers in each of their first three games.
After giving up 40 points and over 300 yards on the ground to Arkansas, the Longhorns shut Rice out and held them to less than 300 yards of total offense.
These rivalry games bring out the best in schools, and we saw Nebraska and Florida both cover and nearly pull off huge upsets. Texas Tech finds themselves in the same spot this weekend, but the Longhorns have dominated this rivalry historically. We'll trust there momentum and history, and take their margin Saturday. Take Texas' game spread this weekend.
PICK: Texas Longhorns -7.5 (-110)
