Preview
Seattle is back in Chase Field for game two of their three-game road trip to Arizona. They took game one last night by a close 6-5 scoreline to take a 1-0 series lead. The Mariners are now on a three-game winning streak and are coming off of the back of a 2-1 series win at home to the Astros, where they shut out baseball's second-best scoring team in 2021 - the Astros - in their back to back wins. The Diamondbacks season is almost all but over. With no hope of making the playoffs, Arizona is simply playing out the remainder of their season awaiting the official elimination. They did beat the Padres in the final game of their last series to snap a five-game losing streak but still lost that series 2-1 after losing 3-1 to the Phillies.
Pitching matchup
Mariners
Marco Gonzales (6-5, 4.03 ERA) Left-handed pitcher Marco Gonzales will start his 20th game of the season for the Mariners. Gonzales is a career 4.08 pitcher in his seven seasons in the majors. His 2014 rookie-season ERA was 4.15 and his season-best came in 2020 when he had a 3.10 ERA. Gonzales has 107.1 innings under his belt this year and has gone for 48 ERs off 99 hits while striking out 83 batters and walking 32.
Diamondbacks
Humberto Castellanos (1-1, 2.14 ERA) Humberto Castellanos starts on the mound for the D'backs. He's a second-year pitcher with a 1.14 WHIP and an impressive 2.14 ERA in nine games and two starts. He had a 6.75 ERA in 2020 over eight games with the Astros. Castellanos only played once in August pitching for 5.1 innings and with only a single ER from three hits to go along with one strikeout and two walks.
Prediction
Both teams have struggled to put runs on the board in their recent form so the over / under set at 9 is too high.
PICK: Under 8.5 (-110)
