The New York Yankees and Atlanta Braves will play game two of their back-to-back this evening. A big game from Giancarlo Stanton put the Yanks over the top last night.
The Yankees are in the midst of a timely twelve-game win streak, as they have played themselves right back into the AL playoff picture. They've got it going at the plate, and their arms are starting to come into playoff form.
The Braves were riding a nine-game win streak themselves prior to last night. They now sit five games ahead in the NL East and with a tough series against the Giants and Dodgers lying ahead, they will need to bounce back and get a win here.
Andrew Heaney (8-8, 5.51 ERA) will start game two for the streaking Yankees. The seventh-year pitcher appears to settling in with New York after coming over from the Angels at the deadline. He's been often erratic at times this season, but for what it's worth, he is coming off of his best start of the season. Hearney only gave up two hits and one run over seven innings of work. Of course this will be a road start, so there is a strong chance of the Yanks streak ending here.
Charlie Morton (12-4, 3.47 ERA) takes the mound for the Braves. The thirteen-year veteran is the prime definition of a late bloomer. After dominating during the Astros and Rays respective title runs, Morton has picked up where he left off and is tied for third in the NL in wins. He's thrown seven strikeouts or more in eight of his last ten starts, and hasn't given up more than four runs since July.
The New York Yankees resurgent month of August could take a blemish here. The bookies feel the same way with good reason, as Charlie Morton represents a formidable test for New York's lineup. The Yankees have responded abruptly to Tim Anderson's walk-off slam into the corn, but all streaks are meant to end. Morton has been one of the best pitchers in the league for five years now and we feels comfortable trusting him at home tonight. Take the Atlanta moneyline this evening.
PICK: Atlanta Braves ML (-135)
