Preview
The Reds are at the American Family Field for the second of a three games series against division rival Milwaukee Brewers, a meeting of first and second in the division. The Reds lost the opening game 7-4, 4, handing them their first loss since sweeping their last series 4-0 and find themselves averaging 5 runs per game in the last five games. Milwaukee have now won 3 straight putting a total of 23 runs on the board during that span at an average of 7.67 runs per game.
Pitching matchup
Reds
Luis Castillo (7-12, 4.36 ERA) Luis Castillo will be first on the mound for the Reds. Castillo is in his fifth year in the league. He had a 3.12 ERA in 2017, a 4.30 ERA in 2018, a 3.40 ERA in 2019 and a 3.21 ERA in 2020. His ERA in 2021 currently stands at 4.36 and he has a WHIP of 1.38. In his 26 games this season, Castillo has given up 143 hits for 79 runs to go with 60 walks and 145 strikeouts. He's 0-2 against the Brewers this season having given up nine runs off 17 hits in his five games. Those five games also include 19 walks and 33 strikeouts.
Brewers
Brandon Woodruff (7-7, 2.48 ERA) Brandon Woodruff gets the start for the Brewers with an ERA of 2.48 and WHIP of 0.94 in 2021, the best of his five-year career so far. Woodruff started his career with a 4.81 ERA in 2017, to 3.61 in 2018, 3.62 in 2019 and a 3.05 ERA in 2020. In his two games against the Reds this season, Woodruff has been excellent giving up 11 hits for only 3 runs with four walks and 12 strikeouts and a 1.54 ERA in those games.
Prediction
The Brewers bats have been red-hot in their last few games while the Reds bats have struggled to find consistency. It could be another solid night for Woodruff and coupled with the Brewers ability to run up the score recently, it'll be too much firepower for Cincinnati.
PICK: Brewers -175
