Preview
Tonight we have the Rangers taking on the Orioles in Baltimore. The Rangers enter this game in bad shape and struggling as they have gone 2-8 in their last 10 games. Their pitching and hitting as been abysmal all year. They will look to close out the season strong. Baltimore enters this game also struggling as they have gone 3-7 in their last 10 games. They too have been plagued by extremely poor pitching, while their bats have been medicore. They'll also be looking to close out the season on a high note.
Pitching matchup
Rangers
Jordan Lyles (9-12, 5.36 ERA) will be on the mound for the Rangers when they take on the Orioles. Lyles enters this game with a 1.44 WHIP and 5.12 XFIP. This season he carries an 18.9% strikeout rate along with a 7.2% walk rate. Lyles has been abysmal this season to say the least. He's been hit hard and has been giving up power to both sides of the plate. He does come into this game off of 3 nice outtings where he only allowed a total of 4 earned runs during that span. He will look to continue his recent string of success against a weak Orioles team.
Orioles
Chris Ellis (1-0, 2.39 ERA) will be on the mound for the Orioles when they host the Rangers. Ellis enters this game with a 1.22 WHIP and 6.13 XFIP. This season he carries an 18.9% strikeout rate along with an 11.7% walk rate. Ellis has faired well so far when he's been called upon, which include taking on both the Yankees and Blue Jays twice. The underlying numbers show some regression coming his way though as his walk rate is too high to consistently be succesful. He has been able to handle some of the top offenses in the league and will look to pick up his 2nd win of the season against a bad Rangers team.
Prediction
Ellis is due some regression and on the other side Lyles has been bad. Although we have some mediocre offenses going at it in this one I'll still look to target the total as both teams should have plenty of chances to put up runs in this one.
PICK: Over 9 (-115)
