The Phillies are back in LoanDepot Park for the second game of the series against the Marlins. Philadephia still is in position to sneak into the wild card spots but will have their eye on sealing the division being within touching distance behind Atlanta. They didn't do themselves any favors last night though, being demolished 10-3 in game one against Miami which could have been worse if not for the Braves' loss to the Rockies. The Phillies are two games behind the Braves in the race for the division title. Tonight they will seek to redeem themselves against their division rivals Miami Marlins who are nowhere close to playoff contention. Miami's win over the Phillies last night snapped a three-game slide which saw them swept by the Mets.
Ranger Suarez (6-4, 1.48 ERA) Ranger Suarez will be first to the mound for the Phillies. The fourth-year pitcher is having a career year in 2021 with an ERA of 1.48 and a WHIP of 1.00. Suarez has pitched 67 innings in 33 games this season striking out 65 and walking 27 batters of 269 faced and with only 11 ERs off 43 hits. He's already faced the Marlins five times this season, throwing for 7 innings and was only hit four times with two ERs.
Trevor Rogers (7-6, 2.48 ERA) Trevor Rogers will start game number 21 for the Marlins this season. In his rookie season in 2020, Rogers had a 6.11 ERA across seven games but has gotten it down to a 2.48 ERA in 2021. The 23-year old has been at the mound for 110 innings and was hit 84 times for 30 ERs to go along with his 19 strikeouts and 40 walks. He played three times against the Phillies this season, starting each game and going for 18.1 innings in total going for only 10 hits and four ERs with a 1.69 ERA.
The Phillies know how much is at stake and they still have the opportunity to gain ground on the Braves and take the division. They split the previous series in Miami 2-2, so there's still cause for optimism. Even with last night's loss, Philly is averaging 7.33 runs per game.
PICK: Phillies run line -1.5 (+148)
