Washington Nationals at Pittsburgh Pirates (6:40 PM ET)

Matchup: Nationals (6-9) open a series at PNC Park against the Pirates (5-11). Probable Pitchers: Jake Irvin (WSH, 0-0, 5.63 ERA) vs Paul Skenes (PIT, 1-1, 3.44 ERA). Odds: Pittsburgh is a heavy favorite (around Pirates -215, Nationals +180) with a low total of 7.5 runs.

  • Moneyline: The Pirates are heavily favored at home, and for good reason. Pittsburgh sends out prized rookie Paul Skenes, who has been solid and can dominate a struggling Nats lineup. Washington’s young bats have been inconsistent, and their pitching depth is thin. The Pirates (-215) moneyline is expensive, but they’re the clear better team in this spot. For a bit more value, consider Pittsburgh on the run line.

  • Run Line: Pittsburgh -1.5 (win by 2 or more) is roughly even money and looks appealing given the mismatch on paper. The Nationals are one of the weakest offenses so far, averaging under 3 runs per game on the road. Skenes has the stuff to shut them down, and the Nats’ starter Jake Irvin (or a call-up arm) is unlikely to go deep. Pirates -1.5 is a strong play, as a 4-2 or 5-2 Pirates win is very plausible.

  • Total: The over/under around 7.5 reflects Skenes’ presence and the Nats’ low run output. Unless Pittsburgh’s bats explode, this could stay low-scoring. The Pirates might score 4-5 runs, but Washington could struggle to plate more than 2. Under 7.5 runs is slightly favored and makes sense given the trend – the Nationals have gone under in many recent games.

  • Prop Bet: Look for Paul Skenes over 7.5 strikeouts. The rookie has electric strikeout ability, and Washington’s lineup has been whiffing frequently. He could easily punch out 8+ Nats in this matchup, making the strikeout prop a solid bet.

San Francisco Giants at Philadelphia Phillies (6:45 PM ET)

Matchup: Giants (11-4) visit the Phillies (9-6) at Citizens Bank Park. Probable Pitchers: Landen Roupp (SF, 0-1, 3.60 ERA) vs Taijuan Walker (PHI, 1-0, 0.00 ERA). Odds: Philadelphia is a slight favorite (about Phillies -120, Giants +100) with a total of 8.5 runs.

  • Moneyline: This game is close to a toss-up. The Phillies (-120) get a slight edge at home, especially with Taijuan Walker yet to allow an earned run this season. Walker has been sharp and the Philly bullpen is rested. San Francisco has the better record, but they’re starting rookie Landen Roupp in a tough environment. The Giants have been surprise winners early on, but we lean Phillies to win outright given the pitching matchup and home-field advantage.

  • Run Line: With a tight moneyline, taking an underdog run line is an option. Giants +1.5 (around -200) is relatively expensive, but it covers a one-run Phillies win. However, that price isn’t very enticing. Alternatively, if you like Philadelphia, their -1.5 run line comes with a nice payout (around +165). It’s riskier because the Giants don’t often get blown out. We’d skip the run line here or only use it in parlays – this feels like a one-run game either way.

  • Total: The total of 8.5 runs could go under if Walker continues his dominance. The Phillies’ offense has been middling, and the Giants might not score much if Roupp can keep them in it and the bullpen holds. San Francisco’s lineup has power, but Citizens Bank Park in cool April weather can suppress scoring a bit. A 4-3 or 5-3 type game is likely, so under 8.5 is our lean.

  • Prop Bet: Bryce Harper to record an RBI is a solid prop in this matchup. Harper has been heating up and should have opportunities with men on base against the Giants’ unproven pitching. One swing from Harper could cash this prop, especially in a hitter-friendly park where he thrives.

Kansas City Royals at New York Yankees (7:05 PM ET)

Matchup: Royals (8-8) face the Yankees (8-7) in the Bronx. Probable Pitchers: Seth Lugo (KC, 1-1, 3.24 ERA) vs Carlos Carrasco (NYY, 1-1, 7.71 ERA). Odds: New York is favored (around Yankees -145, Royals +120) with a total of 8.5 runs.

  • Moneyline: The Yankees are moderate favorites at home, and it’s hard to argue against them here. New York’s lineup is more potent and the Royals have been very up-and-down. Carlos Carrasco has struggled (7.71 ERA), but the Yankees’ bullpen and bats can bail him out. Kansas City is a pesky underdog (they’re .500 on the season), but at Yankee Stadium the Yankees (-145) moneyline is the safer play. Expect New York’s hitters to do enough damage to secure the win, even if it’s a bit of a slugfest.

  • Run Line: The Yankees -1.5 comes with a nice plus-odds payout (+145). However, Carrasco’s form makes it slightly risky to trust a multi-run win. If Carrasco puts the Yankees in an early hole, a one-run win or even an upset is on the table. Still, the Bronx Bombers could break out offensively against Seth Lugo and a weak Royals bullpen. If you’re more daring, Yankees -1.5 is a worthwhile gamble as New York could win by 2+ if their offense clicks (for example, a 6-4 victory).

  • Total: At 8.5 runs, the over might be the better call. Carrasco has been giving up runs, and the Royals’ lineup has shown some life on the road. Meanwhile, the Yankees are always capable of a big inning, especially with power hitters in Yankee Stadium’s short porch. Both teams could contribute to the score; something like 5-4 or 6-4 feels within reach. We lean over 8.5 runs in this matchup.

  • Prop Bet: Aaron Judge to hit a home run. It’s never a bad idea to back Judge in Yankee Stadium, especially against a contact pitcher like Lugo. Judge’s power to right field could easily net a homer in this game. The odds on a Judge homer are usually favorable, and he’s due for a big fly after a quiet stretch. This prop is a fun one with a solid chance to cash.

Boston Red Sox at Tampa Bay Rays (7:05 PM ET)

Matchup: Red Sox (8-9) travel to Tampa to take on the Rays (7-8) at George M. Steinbrenner Field in Tampa, FL (a temporary home venue). Probable Pitchers: Tanner Houck (BOS, 0-1, 4.41 ERA) vs Shane Baz (TB, 1-0, 1.38 ERA). Odds: Tampa Bay is a slight favorite (around Rays -120, Red Sox +100) with an over/under of 8.5 runs.

  • Moneyline: The Rays are favored despite a losing record, which reflects the pitching matchup. Tampa Bay (-120)is the pick here as long as Shane Baz is on the mound. Baz has been outstanding in his early outings (1.38 ERA) and should stifle a Red Sox lineup that can be streaky. Boston’s Tanner Houck has been mediocre and might struggle with the Rays’ balanced offense. The venue is a bit unusual (Steinbrenner Field), but it’s still in Tampa and should play similarly to a neutral-to-pitcher-friendly park. Back the Rays to win in a close one.

  • Run Line: Taking the Rays -1.5 at plus odds (+165 or so) is tempting with Baz pitching. Tampa’s issue has been inconsistent hitting, so they’re not a lock to win by 2. The Red Sox offense, led by Rafael Devers, can erupt at times. Because the moneyline is reasonable, you don’t need to force a run line bet here unless you’re chasing value. If we had to choose, Rays -1.5 is a high-upside play (perhaps a 5-3 win), but it’s riskier.

  • Total: 8.5 runs is the total, and we lean under. Baz could easily throw six innings of one-run ball, and Tampa’s bullpen is strong. Houck might give up a few, but if he can limit damage to 3-4 runs over five innings, the total should stay in check. Neither team has been consistently mashing at the plate recently. Unless errors or bullpen meltdowns occur, something like 4-3 or 5-2 feels likely, which stays under.

  • Prop Bet: Shane Baz over 6.5 strikeouts. The Red Sox have some free swingers in their lineup, and Baz’s stuff has looked electric. He’s averaging over a strikeout per inning. If he goes 6+ innings, he should clear seven punchouts. This prop is a great way to back Baz’s dominance if you don’t want to lay the moneyline.

Atlanta Braves at Toronto Blue Jays (7:07 PM ET)

Matchup: Braves (4-11) start a three-game set in Toronto against the Blue Jays (9-7) at Rogers Centre. Probable Pitchers: Grant Holmes (ATL, 0-1, 4.00 ERA) vs Easton Lucas (TOR, 2-0, 0.00 ERA) – the Blue Jays may use Lucas as an opener/bullpen game. Odds: This game is nearly a pick’em (approximately -110 each way on the moneyline) with a higher total of 9.5 runs.

  • Moneyline: It’s surprising to see the Braves at 4-11, but that early record reflects serious struggles. Still, Atlanta has talent and can’t be underestimated. The Blue Jays have the better record and home field, but if they indeed go with a bullpen game (Easton Lucas as an opener), that could level the field. Toronto’s offense has been solid, and Atlanta’s pitching beyond the top starters is shaky. In a true coin flip, we give a slight nod to the Blue Jays (-110) at home to pull out a win. They’ve been strong in Toronto and can exploit the Braves’ pitching woes, especially if Atlanta’s Grant Holmes falters.

  • Run Line: With essentially even odds on the moneyline, the run line plays are juicy. Braves -1.5 at around +150 or Jays +1.5 at -180. Rather than lay heavy juice on a +1.5, you might take a chance on Braves -1.5 if you believe Atlanta’s offense wakes up. However, given the unpredictability, we prefer sticking to the straight result here. If anything, consider alternate lines in live betting once we see how the Jays’ pitching plan unfolds. Pre-game, it’s a bit of a guess.

  • Total: Over 9.5 runs is in play here. The Braves’ pitching staff has been getting knocked around (their team ERA is quite high), and the Blue Jays can certainly hit in their homer-friendly ballpark. Conversely, Atlanta’s lineup (despite the slow start) has names like Acuña, Olson, and Riley who can feast if Toronto is piecing together 9 innings with relievers. This has the makings of a slugfest. We’ll take over 9.5 and not be surprised if each team puts up 5+ runs.

  • Prop Bet: Vladimir Guerrero Jr. over 1.5 total bases. Vlad Jr. at home against a struggling Braves staff is a recipe for hard contact. He could get this with a single and a double, or one swing of the bat if he goes deep. Given his form, backing Vlad to get at least two bases (hits combined) is a smart prop. He’s the centerpiece of the Jays’ offense and should rise to the occasion in this interleague matchup.

Detroit Tigers at Milwaukee Brewers (7:40 PM ET)

Matchup: Tigers (9-6) visit the Brewers (8-8) at American Family Field. Probable Pitchers: Tarik Skubal (DET, 1-2, 3.78 ERA) vs Tyler Alexander (MIL, 1-0, 2.84 ERA). Odds: Detroit is favored despite being the road team (around Tigers -160, Brewers +140). The total is a low 7.5 runs.

  • Moneyline: Don’t look now, but the Tigers are off to a strong start and sit atop the AL Central. Detroit is favored here as the Tigers (-160) due to Tarik Skubal, the reigning AL Cy Young winner. Skubal is a difference-maker; when he’s on the mound, Detroit is a tough team to beat. Milwaukee is coming off a road trip and hasn’t found consistency at 8-8. With Skubal’s dominance and the Tigers winning 7 of their last 10, we like Detroit to win this game. The Brewers may struggle to generate offense against the lefty.

  • Run Line: The Tigers -1.5 is offered at plus money (+110). Given the expected low-scoring nature, a one-run win by Detroit is quite possible (making the run line risky). However, if Skubal completely shuts down Milwaukee, the Tigers could win 3-1 or 4-2 and cover. On the flip side, Brewers +1.5 (-130) covers a close loss and might be safer if you think Milwaukee hangs around. Our inclination is that Detroit’s pitching will control the game, so Tigers -1.5 is a reasonable gamble for a better payout.

  • Total: Under 7.5 runs is attractive with two solid left-handers on the hill. Neither lineup is particularly explosive right now. The Brewers have struggled to score (just 5 runs in their last two games of the previous series), and the Tigers also rely on manufacturing runs rather than slugfests. With Skubal and Alexander both capable of quality starts, runs should come at a premium. We’re taking under 7.5, expecting a pitcher’s duel into the bullpens.

  • Prop Bet: Tarik Skubal over 7.5 strikeouts. Skubal is a strikeout artist and the Brewers have been striking out at a high clip (they’ve fanned a lot against lefties this year). In his last start, Skubal fanned six in six scoreless innings. He could easily go north of that against Milwaukee. This prop aligns with our low-total, pitching-dominant narrative – Skubal racks up Ks while keeping runs off the board.

Houston Astros at St. Louis Cardinals (7:45 PM ET)

Matchup: Astros (7-8) meet the Cardinals (7-8) at Busch Stadium in an interleague showdown. Probable Pitchers:Framber Valdez (HOU, 1-1, 2.50 ERA) vs Sonny Gray (STL, 2-0, 4.50 ERA). Odds: The Astros are slight favorites (around Astros -120, Cardinals +100). The total is a low 7.5 runs.

  • Moneyline: Both teams have identical records and have been frustratingly inconsistent. The slight edge goes to Houston thanks to Framber Valdez, who has been sharp early on. Astros (-120) is our pick to win, as Valdez is a true ace who can neutralize the Cardinals lineup. St. Louis hasn’t won back-to-back games all month, and their offense has been average (despite a decent team batting average, they aren’t scoring a ton). Sonny Gray is a savvy veteran, but Houston’s lineup (Altuve, Bregman, Tucker, etc.) has more firepower than what the Cards have shown. It could be tight, but we trust Houston to pull out a win, maybe 4-3, on the road.

  • Run Line: With such a tight matchup, taking the underdog Cardinals +1.5 (-175) is the safer spread play if you expect a one-run game. Conversely, Astros -1.5 (+145) is a high-risk, high-reward option. Given the low total and quality starters, a one-run game is very possible (think 3-2 or 4-3 final). We’d lean Cardinals +1.5 if you want a run line, just to have that cushion. However, since the payout is steep, the moneyline on Houston has better value without needing a multi-run victory.

  • Total: Not many runs are expected here. Under 7.5 is a strong play with Valdez and Gray on the mound. Both pitchers are capable of twirling gems – Valdez just fanned 8 in six scoreless innings in his last outing, and Gray is coming off a solid one-run, 5-inning performance. The Cardinals have hit lefties decently in small samples, but Valdez is a different caliber. Meanwhile, the Astros haven’t consistently crushed right-handed pitching yet this year. A classic 3-2 pitchers’ duel could be in store, so we’re on the under.

  • Prop Bet: Framber Valdez over 6.5 strikeouts. Valdez isn’t known purely as a strikeout pitcher, but he’s been racking them up (including 8 Ks in his last start). The Cardinals lineup has some free swingers, and Valdez’s curveball could have them fishing. In a game where he’s likely to go deep (7+ innings is possible for Framber), 7 or more strikeouts is within reach. This prop pairs nicely with the under – it suggests Valdez dominates the game.

Chicago Cubs at San Diego Padres (9:40 PM ET)

Matchup: Cubs (11-7) head west to face the red-hot Padres (13-3) at Petco Park. Probable Pitchers: Jameson Taillon(CHC, 1-1, 6.06 ERA) vs Dylan Cease (SD, 1-1, 7.98 ERA). Odds: San Diego is favored (around Padres -165, Cubs +140) with a total of 7.5 to 8 runs.

  • Moneyline: The Padres have been phenomenal, especially at home where they are undefeated (10-0). Despite Dylan Cease’s surprisingly high ERA (7.98), San Diego keeps finding ways to win – often with big offense. The Cubs have cooled off a bit after a strong start and Taillon has been hittable (6.06 ERA). It’s hard to go against a team as hot as San Diego. Padres (-165) on the moneyline is our pick. They simply have more momentum and a deeper lineup right now. Watch for stars like Juan Soto and Manny Machado to take advantage of Taillon early.

  • Run Line: The standard Padres -1.5 comes at a plus price (+130). Given their dominant home performances, it’s an enticing bet. San Diego has been winning games by comfortable margins in many cases. If Cease can just deliver a half-decent outing (say, 5-6 innings and 3 runs allowed), the Padres offense should back him enough to cover. The Cubs’ bullpen can be shaky as well. We’ll side with Padres -1.5 to add value – a 5-3 or 6-4 Padres win would cash it.

  • Total: The total is on the lower side (7.5 or 8) because Petco Park is generally pitcher-friendly. However, these teams just saw a bunch of runs in their recent games (the Padres shut out Colorado 6-0 on Sunday, and the Cubs can score in bunches when clicking). Cease has not settled in with San Diego yet, and if Chicago’s bats wake up, they could contribute to an over. We lean over 7.5 runs, expecting the Padres to maybe cover most of that themselves (they’ve been one of MLB’s highest scoring teams so far). Even if the Cubs chip in 2-3 runs, the over can hit with San Diego’s potent lineup.

  • Prop Bet: Fernando Tatis Jr. to steal a base. Tatis has returned to the Padres lineup and brings his aggressive base-running to the table. Against a Cubs battery that isn’t the quickest in shutting down the run game, Tatis could snag a base if he reaches. This is a bit of a longshot prop, but with Tatis’s speed and the Padres’ willingness to be aggressive, it offers a nice payout. If you prefer a safer prop, consider Juan Soto over 1.5 total bases – he’s been drawing walks and hitting for power, so a double or a couple of hits will cash that.

Colorado Rockies at Los Angeles Dodgers (10:10 PM ET)

Matchup: Rockies (3-12) face the Dodgers (11-6) under the lights at Dodger Stadium. Probable Pitchers: Antonio Senzatela (COL, 0-2, 5.14 ERA) vs Dustin May (LAD, 0-1, 0.82 ERA). Odds: The Dodgers are massive favorites(around Dodgers -335, Rockies +265). The total is about 8.5 runs.

  • Moneyline: There’s not much value in taking Los Angeles straight up at such a steep price, but it’s hard to envision the Rockies pulling off an upset here. The Dodgers have a far superior lineup and a clear pitching advantage with Dustin May (who has been almost unhittable, 0.82 ERA) versus Senzatela (struggling and allowing a .415 batting average against). If you’re including this in parlays, Dodgers to win (-335) is the obvious choice. Colorado has lost three straight via shutout and looks completely overmatched; Los Angeles should take care of business comfortably.

  • Run Line: Because the moneyline is so one-sided, the run line is where you might bet this game. Dodgers -1.5 will be heavily juiced (likely around -160), so even the books have adjusted. In fact, you might consider Dodgers -2.5for plus money (the Dodgers winning by 3 or more). Given the state of the Rockies (last in the NL West, and barely able to score lately), a blowout is possible. The Dodgers offense has been a bit quiet by their standards, but facing Rockies pitching tends to cure that. We’ll confidently take Dodgers -1.5 runs and even endorse -2.5 for a better payout – something like a 7-2 Dodger victory could be on tap.

  • Total: Over 8.5 could hit if the Dodgers tee off, but it might require the Rockies to score a couple themselves. The safer angle is actually the Dodgers team total over (if you have that prop), since Colorado might not contribute much. However, if Dustin May dominates and Colorado stays cold, this could also end 7-1 (which is under 8.5). We lean over because L.A. might do most of the work – they could cover 8 or 9 runs on their own if the floodgates open. Just be aware it largely depends on the Dodgers’ offense; the Rockies might only put up 1-2 runs max against May and the Dodgers’ bullpen.

  • Prop Bet: Freddie Freeman over 1.5 total bases. Freeman has been one of the Dodgers’ most consistent hitters and against Senzatela he should see plenty of good pitches. A couple of doubles or even just two hits will cash this prop. You could also look at Mookie Betts to score a run, as he’ll likely be on base and the middle of the order can drive him in. Overall, targeting Dodgers hitters in the prop market is wise in such a lopsided matchup.

Recommended Three-Leg Parlay for April 14, 2025

For a boosted payout, here’s a 3-leg parlay combining some of our top confidence picks from the above games:

  • Pittsburgh Pirates -1.5 Run Line – The Pirates are facing a weak Nationals team and have their ace going. We like them to win by at least 2 runs at home.

  • Detroit Tigers Moneyline – Back the Tigers to win behind Tarik Skubal. Detroit has the pitching edge over Milwaukee, and taking them simply to win is a solid parlay piece.

  • Los Angeles Dodgers -1.5 Run Line – The Dodgers should handle the Rockies with ease. Even on the run line, this is a strong leg given L.A.’s huge advantage in talent.

This three-leg parlay focuses on favorites in advantageous spots. At current odds, it pays out at approximate +400 odds(4-to-1). That means a $100 bet would net around $400 in profit if all three legs hit. It’s a balanced mix of one run line with a moderate favorite (PIT), a straight moneyline on a road favorite (DET), and another run line on the biggest favorite of the day (LAD). All three teams have strong chances to deliver. As always, parlays are higher risk, but these selections give a nice blend of probability and payout. Good luck!

FAQ: April 14, 2025 MLB Betting Tips

Q: How many MLB games are scheduled for April 14, 2025?
A: There are nine MLB games on Monday, April 14, 2025. We have betting picks for every matchup: Nationals vs Pirates, Giants vs Phillies, Royals vs Yankees, Red Sox vs Rays, Braves vs Blue Jays, Tigers vs Brewers, Astros vs Cardinals, Cubs vs Padres, and Rockies vs Dodgers. It’s a lighter schedule than a full 15-game slate (some teams have the day off), but plenty of action for bettors to analyze.

Q: What are the best MLB bets today (April 14, 2025)?
A: Some of our MLB expert picks for April 14 include the Tigers moneyline (with Tarik Skubal on the mound), the Padres moneyline (given San Diego’s home dominance), and the Under 7.5 in Astros vs Cardinals (due to a strong pitching duel). These are among the top confident plays. Additionally, the Dodgers run line is a popular bet tonight because Los Angeles is heavily favored to beat Colorado by multiple runs. As always, “best bets” depend on your risk tolerance – heavy favorites are safer but pay less, while run lines and totals can offer more value. Our analysis above highlights the best bets in each game.

Q: What is a good parlay for April 14 MLB games?
A: We’ve highlighted a recommended three-leg parlay in the article combining the Pirates -1.5, Tigers ML, and Dodgers -1.5. This parlay focuses on favorites in favorable matchups and offers roughly a +400 payout. Parlays are a way to increase your potential winnings by linking bets together, but remember all legs must win for the parlay to cash. If you want a more conservative parlay, you could take those same teams on the moneyline (Pirates ML, Tigers ML, Dodgers ML) for a lower payout but higher chance of hitting. Always choose parlay legs you feel strongly about; our suggested one is built on games where we see a clear edge.

Q: Are there any promising underdog picks on April 14, 2025?
A: Most underdogs on April 14 are facing tough matchups, but if you’re looking for a live dog, the San Francisco Giants (+100) could be worth a look. They’re slight underdogs against Philadelphia and have been playing well early this season – if their rookie pitcher can keep them in the game, the Giants have a shot to upset the Phillies. Another underdog with intrigue is the Kansas City Royals (+120). The Royals have been around .500 and face a Yankees team with an inconsistent starter. It’s not the safest bet, but the payout is attractive if you think the Yankees might stumble. As always, bet underdogs only if you see a viable path to victory – big plus-money odds are tempting, but there should be a real reason (pitching matchup, recent form, etc.) to justify the upset.

Q: What does the run line mean in baseball betting, and which run line looks good today?
A: The run line is baseball’s version of a point spread, typically set at 1.5 runs. A favorite at -1.5 runs must win by 2 or more for that bet to win. An underdog at +1.5 can lose by one run (or win outright) and still cover the bet. For April 14, a run line we like is the Pittsburgh Pirates -1.5. Pittsburgh is favored over Washington, and we expect them to win by at least two runs given the disparity in pitching and offense. Laying -1.5 on the Dodgers is another popular choice (as they could win by a large margin). If you prefer taking an underdog with the spread, Cardinals +1.5 is a decent option since that Houston-St. Louis game could be very close. Understanding run lines is key to baseball betting tips – it can turn heavy favorites into manageable bets or provide a safety net on underdogs.
