MLB Best Bets and Player Props – Saturday, August 2, 2025
Astros vs. Red Sox – (Game resumes Sunday at 9:35 AM ET)
Pitching Matchup: Framber Valdez (HOU, 11‑4, 2.62 ERA) vs. Lucas Giolito (BOS, 7‑2, 3.80 ERA)
Best Bet: Astros Moneyline (‑130)
Why: Valdez is one of the most consistent pitchers in MLB and holds the edge over Giolito. Houston’s overall depth and power lineup should carry them when the game resumes.
Player Prop: Yordan Alvarez Over 1.5 Total Bases
Why: Alvarez is highly productive vs right‑handers and excels in tight playoff‑type environments.
Dodgers vs. Rays – 10:10 AM ET
Pitching Matchup: Yoshinobu Yamamoto (LAD, 9‑7, 2.63 ERA) vs. Joe Boyle (TB, 1‑1, 2.82 ERA)
Best Bet: Dodgers Moneyline (‑200)
Why: Yamamoto is elite and has been dominant all season. Tampa’s Boyle is respectable but not proven under playoff intensity. Los Angeles has the lineup advantage.
Player Prop: Freddie Freeman Over 1.5 Total Bases
Why: Freeman has consistently punished fastballs and performs well in front of left‑leaning pitch mixes like Boyle’s.
Brewers vs. Nationals – 11:35 AM ET
Pitching Matchup: Jacob Misiorowski (MIL, 4‑1, 2.70 ERA) vs. Brad Lord (WSH, 2‑5, 3.27 ERA)
Best Bet: Brewers ‑1.5 Run Line (‑105)
Why: Misiorowski has emerged as a reliable option, supported by Milwaukee’s strong bullpen. Washington continues to struggle in tight games.
Player Prop: Christian Yelich Over 1.5 Total Bases
Why: Yelich has extra-base potential vs Lord’s soft stuff and has been hitting well on the road.
Royals vs. Blue Jays – 11:37 AM ET
Pitching Matchup: Seth Lugo (KC, 8‑5, 3.03 ERA) vs. Chris Bassitt (TOR, 11‑5, 4.24 ERA)
Best Bet: Blue Jays ‑1.5 Run Line (+150)
Why: Toronto’s offense has feast‑ed off similar pitching styles, and Lugo gives up too many fly balls to risk run line coverage.
Player Prop: Bo Bichette Over 1.5 Total Bases
Why: Bichette thrives in power matchups and has strong splits at home.
Twins vs. Guardians – 11:40 AM ET
Pitching Matchup: Jose Urena (MIN, 0‑0, 5.40 ERA) vs. Joey Cantillo (CLE, 2‑1, 4.14 ERA)
Best Bet: Guardians Moneyline (‑165)
Why: Urena is untested at this level; Cleveland’s rotation has more upside. Home pitching advantage could tilt close games.
Player Prop: José Ramírez Over 1.5 Total Bases
Why: Ramírez is Cleveland’s most consistent hitter with significant power and production upside.
Yankees vs. Marlins – 11:40 AM ET
Pitching Matchup: Luis Gil (NYY) vs. Edward Cabrera (MIA, 4‑5, 3.35 ERA)
Best Bet: Yankees Moneyline (‑120)
Why: New York’s depth and bullpen advantage give them the edge. Gil adds upside on the mound.
Player Prop: Aaron Judge Over 0.5 Home Runs
Why: Judge continues to crush high‑velocity arms and should benefit from Cabrera’s profile.
Giants vs. Mets – 11:40 AM ET
Pitching Matchup: Carson Whisenhunt (SF, 0‑0, 7.20 ERA) vs. Frankie Montas (NYM, 3‑1, 5.46 ERA)
Best Bet: Mets Moneyline (‑160)
Why: Montas offers better MLB seasoning than Whisenhunt in his debut. New York’s offense is more consistent.
Player Prop: Francisco Lindor Over 1.5 Total Bases
Why: Lindor thrives at home in San Francisco’s spacious left field and looks locked in.
Orioles vs. Cubs – 12:20 PM ET
Pitching Matchup: Brandon Young (BAL, 0‑5, 6.63 ERA) vs. Colin Rea (CHC, 8‑5, 4.25 ERA)
Best Bet: Cubs Moneyline (‑185)
Why: Rea is more consistent, and Chicago’s offense should be able to exploit Young’s walk rate and lack of control.
Player Prop: Cody Bellinger Over 1.5 Total Bases
Why: Bellinger has strong success vs lesser right‑handing options and plays well at Wrigley.
