The New York Mets and the Boston Red Sox will start their two-game split from Fenway Park this evening.
The Mets were finally able to end an untimely five-game skid on Sunday with a win over the Phillies. New York got off to a good start this month, but they've fallen five games back of the NL East. This trip to Boston must go well if they want to play in October.
The Red Sox are riding a five-game win streak at the right time. After completing their second sweep of the Orioles this season, Boston has jumped ahead in the AL Wild Card race and now sit in the fourth seed. With a three-game home set with Yankees looming this weekend, they can't overlook the Mets here.
Marcus Stroman (9-12, 2.88 ERA) will start for New York. Stro has been the Mets most consistent pitcher this, as every one of his outings since mid-July have been quality starts. He's been pretty good on the road during that span too. In his last road start in Miami, he threw six shutout innings and fanned seven Marlins. In his last outing, a home start against the Cardinals, he only gave up two runs over six innings of work and struck out eight.
Eduardo Rodridguez (11-8, 5.00 ERA) will get the call for Boston. The sixth-year pitcher has been somewhat erratic since the All-Star break, but he's coming off of a strong start in Seattle. Rodriguez only gave up one run over six innings, and struck out six Mariners. If he can key in at home with against a managable Mets lineup, the Sox can keep the hot streak going.
Bostons recent stretch of play and Stroman's form make this one interesting. The upset is appealing here, but with the Red Sox carrying all of the momentum into this one, we feel comfortable trusting them tonight. Xander Bogaerts and Rafael Devers have been hot at the plate, and they should do just enough to get the win tonight. Bet on the Red Sox run line, and take a look at the over.
PICK: Boston Red Sox -1.5 (+125)
