Preview
The Seattle Mariners and the Minnesota Twins will wrap up their four-game set this evening. After losing the first two gmes by one run, the Twins snapped and put together a 10-4 win yesterday at Target Field.
The Mariners picked up where they left off with a pair of underdog victories to open the season. Seattle's late season last spring was both memorable and profitable, and they're going to steal games like this all season. Mitch Haniger has homered in two of the first three games.
The Twins broke out with an impressive six home runs last night, and they have a lot of momentum heading into the final day. Newcomers Carlos Correa, Gio Urshela, and Gary Sanchez have all homered during this opening set, with longtime Twin Byron hitting two homers in the win last evening.
Pitching matchup
Mariners
Chris Flexen (0-0, 0.00 ERA) will make get the call for Seattle here. The fifth-year pitcher had a career year after coming over from the Mets last season, posting a 14-6 record with a 3.61 ERA and 125 strikeouts, all personal bests. Flexen gives the Mariners a reliable third/fourth day starter with ace upside.
Twins
Dylan Bundy (0-0, 0.00 ERA) will get take the mound for Minnesota here. The Twins did a lot of reshuffling this offseason, and bringing in Bundy will prove to a be a solid pickup if his best ability isn't trumped by head-scratching play. Bundy's ability to eat innings is his best trait, and if he can improve on last year's 2-9 record and career-worse 6.06 ERA, he could be in for a rebound season.
Prediction
It really depends on which Dylan Bundy the Twins are going to get. If he can survive five to six innings, he should get the run support to even the series and pick up the victory tonite. Minnesota gave us a dose of what they're about, and they will be a fun team to bet on this season.
Take the over for this one, bats on both sides are starting to come alive.
