Preview

We'll receive another edition of the Crosstown Classic when the Chicago White Sox host the Chicago Cubs this weekend. The White Sox swept the Cubs earlier this month, and outscored them 21-9 in those three contests.

The Cubs have playing uninspiring baseball since the trade deadline, but they've managed to provide bettors with a few upsets over the past two weeks. The wins in Cincinnati reminded us to be mindful of the young Cubbies.

The White Sox are coming off of a rough road trips in Tampa and Toronto, but they did manage to win their final game, 10-7. The sit comfortably above the AL Central with a nine game lead heading into this interleague series.

Pitching matchup

Cubs

Keegan Thompson (3-3, 2.42 ERA) will get the start for the Cubs. He's coming off of his longest start of the season after a stint on the DL, and he may be auditioning for a role in the rotation next season. He will likely have his hands full with this potent White Sox lineup on the road.

White Sox

Dallas Keuchel (8-7, 4.71 ERA) will take the mound for the White Sox. He was roughed up by the Rays in his last start, but he's been a substancially better pitcher at home this season. Keuchel has only given up more than two runs in one of his last six starts at Guaranteed Rate this season. He's never been a strikeout pitcher, but this young Cubs lineup shouldn't give him too much trouble.

Prediction

As of late, it'd be foolish to sleep on the Chicago Cubs, but tonight shouldn't be one to overthink. Keuchel has been very steady at home, and the White Sox lineup could have their way with Thompson on the mound. Trust the White Sox to take the first battle of Chicago confidently. Bet on their run line, and take the over.
