Preview

The NL East-leading Atlanta Braves are back in Dodger Stadium for game three of their four-game tilt against the Dodgers.  LAD took game two last night and now holds a 2-0 series lead and is half a game behind NL West division-leading San Francisco Giants.  Atlanta themselves are losing ground in their division and the Phillies are closing in as the race for the division title and automatic playoff berth is heating up.  This series has serious ramifications for both Atlanta and LAD which explains why games one and two finished within two and one runs respectively.

Max Fried (11-7, 3.54 ERA) Max Fried is back on the mound first up for Atlanta.  His 2021 ERA is 3.54 and WHIP is 1.20.  He had an ERA of 3.81 in his rookie season in 2017, 2.94 in 2018, 4.02 in 2019 and his career-best 2.25 in 2020. So far in his 22 games played in 2021,  Fried has thrown for 124.2 innings giving up 116 hits and 49 ERs. He also has claimed 122 strikeouts compared to 34 walks.

Dodgers

Max Scherzer (12-4, 2.51 ERA) Max Scherzer will start his 6th game since joining the Dodgers during the season.  He played five games in August since relocating to LA pitching 36 innings surrendering 24 hits with seven ERs, 52 batters struck out and six walks.  He played the Braves once this season giving up four hits and three ERs, with an ERA of 6.00 in that meeting.

Prediction

TThere's a lot at stake for both of these teams and they've been trending in opposite directions.  Scherzer has been impressive yet again and the Braves bats have been kept very modest in this series.  LAD just seems to have too much at home for Atlanta.
