The Houston Astros will travel to Petco Park and take on the San Diego Padres for a three-game series. The Padres took two of three games from the Astros back in May.

The Astros finished the most of August on a strong note, but they dropped their last two at Safeco against Seattle. This series marks the beginning of an interesting nine-game stretch for Houston. They've been solid as visitors this season, but they just laid eggs in three of their past four road games. The Astros are due for an explosion at the plate.

The Padres enter on the heels of a lost to the Diamondbacks. A trio of four-game losing streaks last month has turned bettors against them and altered their postseason outlook. San Diego sits less than a game out of the final NL Wild Card spot, so their still in the picture but the run needs to start now. They will have their work cut out for them tonight.

Pitching matchup

Jose Urquidy (6-3, 3.38 ERA) gets the call for Houston. He's really grown over his first full season in the big leagues. He's been very reliable in eight of his last nine starts. Urquirdy has only given up more than two runs twice in that span, and he's went seven innings in each of his past two road starts. He struck out six in Baltimore and eight in Minnesota.

Jake Arrieta (5-12, 7.13 ERA) will get the start for San Diego. The twelve-year veteran has been far from stable this season. After getting out the mess in Chicago, he latched on San Diego, and brought the same vulnerability he has all season. In his first start for the Padres against the Rockies at Coors, he gave up five runs in less than four innings of work. He's given up four runs or more in four of his past five starts, and his vulnerabilty should be targeted by both the Astros and bettors.

We see betting against Jake Arrieta as a entry. The veteran pitcher has been very inconsistent this season and a ticking time bomb on the mound. The Houston bats are due for one, and with Arrieta starting, we like them a lot tonight. With two the of better lineups in the league, the over will also be in play. Bet on the Astros ML.
