Preview

The Mets and Marlins will face off tonight for their 2nd game in this 3 game series.  The Mets picked up a win lastnight 9-4. The Mets enter this game as playoff hopefulls, sitting 4 games back in a competitive NL East, while being 3.5 games back for a wild card spot.  They'll look to keep up their winning ways of late tonight against the Marlins.  The Marlins come into this game with no hopes to make the post season and have been getting some looks at their younger prospects.  They'll look to win some games befoe the season comes to a close.

Mets

Rich Hill (0-2, 4.06 ERA) will be called upon to take on the Marlins tonight. He enters this game with a 1.22 WHIP  and 5.00 XFIP.  He carries a 21.6% strikeout rate paired with an 8.1% walk rate.  Hill has been a steady starter this year.  He has had some walk issues and allowed some hard contact to right handed hitters.  He comes in to this game off a nice start, throwing 6 innings, striking out 4 hitters while not allowing any runs against the lowly Nationals.  He's been a steady pitcher that simply gets the job done and puts the Mets in a spot to win when he steps on the mound.  He will look to pick up his first win with the Mets tonight.

Marlins

Sandy Alcantara (8-13, 3.36 ERA) will be on the mound for the Marlins today when they take on the Mets. Alcantara comes into this game with a 1.12 WHIP and 4.05 XFIP.  This season he has a 22.6% strikeout rate paired with a 7% walk rate.  Alcantara has been very good this year, especially at home.  He was on fire in the month of August throwing 39.2 innings, striking out 48 hitters, while allowing 14 ER's (10 ER's in Colorado vs the Rockies). Other than a hiccup in Coors field Alcantara has been electric.  He comes into this game after just facing this Mets team in New York, throwing 6.1 innings, striking out 6 hitters while allowing 4 ER's.  He will look to attack this Mets lineup better this time around.  

Prediction

We have two solid pitchers taking the mound for each team today.  Although Rich Hil isn't a dominant pitcher, he has been able to keep opposing offenses in check. Alcantara has been steady all year and although the Mets come into this game 8-2 in their last 10, I think Alcantara can keep this Mets offense quite today.
