Preview
Today the White Sox will take on the Royals in their 2nd game of this 3 game series. The Royals got to the White Sox lastnight with a score of 7-2. The White Sox enter this game firmly in first place in the AL Central. The Royals on the other hand have no chance to make the playoffs. As long as the White Sox aren't on cruise control until the post season they should be able to continue their dominance and close out the season strong.
Pitching matchup
White Sox
Reynaldo Lopez (3-1, 1.54 ERA) will take the mound today when they face off against the Royals. Lopez enters this game with a 0.69 WHIP and 3.66 XFIP. He carries with him a very nice 30.4% strikeout rate along with a 5.6% walk rate. This Royals projected lineup strikes out at a 23.8% clip against right handed pitching so he will look to pick up some K's in this one. Lopez has been good this year, albeit only throwing 5 innings 2 times this season. He was in a relief roll at points this year which boasts the strikeout rate. Don't look for him to pitch more than 5 innings in this one before he hands it over to the bullpen.
Royals
Daniel Lynch (4-3, 4.47 ERA) will be on the mound today for the Royals to take on the White Sox. He enters this game with a 1.59 WHIP and 5.36 XFIP. He carries a low 18.7% strikeout rate along with a high 9.8% walk rate. Lynch has had his stuggle with walks to both sides of the plate, along with giving up some premium conact and power to right handed hitters. The pojected lineup for the White Sox looks to be filled top to bottom with right handed bats that project for a very good .246 ISO and .354wOBA. Lynch has been decent this year but this will be a very hard task to tame this White Sox lineup.
Prediction
The White Sox come into this game crushing left handed pitching. They are fully healthy except for the absence of Tim Anderson. Lopez has been good in his limited outtings as a starter and I expect him to do enough to keep this weak Royals lineup in check before he hands the ball off to the bullpen. I'll back the better offense and better pitching in this one.
