The Yankees will take on the Angels today in the last game of this 3 game series.  The Yankees have dropped the first 2 games in this series and will look to rebound today and get back to their winning ways.  The Yankees are 2 games up in the wildcard while the Angels are 8.5 games back of the second wildcard spot in the AL.  The Yankees will put their ace on the mound in Gerrit Cole to right the ship against a strike out heavy Angels team.

Gerrit Cole (13-6, 2.80 ERA) will take the mound today when the Yankees take on the Angels.  Cole has been spectacular this year, coming into this game with a 0.99 WHIP and 3.04 XFIP.  He enters this game having a superb 35.6% strikeout rate accompanied with a nice 5.6% walk rate.  This Angels projected lineup has a combined 26.7% strikeout rate against right handed pitching this year.  This is a juicy matchup for Cole who should find plenty of K's and pick up his 14th win of this season, backed by his elite stuff and loaded offense.

Angels

Packy Naughton (0-0, 1.69 ERA) will take on the task of taming this Yankees lineup today. The young lefty comes into to this game with only 5.1 innings under his belt.  In those innings he has a 1.50 WHIP and an awful 6.93 XFIP.  He has struck out only 8% of hitters so far and has a 12% walk rate.  Looking at his 56.2 innings thrown in AAA this year he has not been good, having a 1.45 WHIP while allowing opposing offenses to hit for .299 batting average. He will have his hands full taking on this loaded Yankees lineup. 

Prediction

The Yankees have their ace on the mound and take on a young lefty in who doesnt have much experience in the big leagues to this point in his career.  The Yankees have been one of the better offenses against left handed pitching and should have no problem putting up plenty of runs and taking this game in easy fashion.
