The North Texas Mean Green will host the Marshall Thundering Herd for a Conference USA matchup this Friday. Neither team finished the month of September strong, but the Thundering Herd were able to get in the win column last weekend.
Marshall snapped a three-game losing streak with a win over Old Dominion last weekend. After the game went into overtime, Marshall would score on their second play, and then prevent the Monarchs from scoring to pick up the victory.
Grant Wells has thrown a lot so far this year, but his aggressiveness has gotten Marshall in trouble at times this season. He leads Conference USA with 2003 passing yards but he has eight touchdowns to nine interceptions.
Rasheen Ali has been an important piece to the offense through the first month of the season. He leads Marshall with 566 rushing yards on 101 carries and 12 total touchdowns.
Corey Gammage leads a solid group of pass catchers. The redshirt sophomore has caught six passes or more five times this season, and he leads the team with 38 catches for 506 receiving yards.
North Texas has endured a rough season after winning their season opener. The Mean Green have dropped their last four games, and they not rest in the cellar of Conference USA's West Division.
They may have figured out the signal caller position with Austin Aune. The redshirt sophomore quarterback went 16-26 for 305 passing yards with four touchdowns to two interceptions in Mizzou, and he tallied 59 rushing yards.
North Texas is led in the backfield by bellcow DeAndre Torrey. The senior back has been the focal point of the offense, leading the Mean Green with 601 rushing yards and four scores on the season.
Marshall had their best defensive peromance of the season last weekend. The Thundering Herd held ODU to 13 points and under 110 yards passing, got to the quarterback four times, and forced a pair of turnovers.
North Texas was gashed on ground for 314 rushing yards by Missouri last Saturday, and failed to force a turnover.
Marshall enters with one of the best offenses in Conference USA, and we feel good trusting them here against a North Texas team looking to get out of funk. It's been a long five weeks for the Mean Green, and their troubles could continue Friday evening. Take Marshall's spread here, and monitor the over as both offense can be high octane.
PICK: Marshall Thundering Herd -10.5
