Preview
The St. Bonaventure Bonnies will travel to Boulder and take on the Colorado Buffaloes in first round of the 2022 National Invitational Tournament on Tuesday night.
The Buffaloes are favored to win by five at home here.
St. Bonaventure Bonnies
The Bonnies caught fire after a shaky start to Atlantic 10 play, but their fate was ultimately decided by a one-point loss to Saint Louis in the A-1o tournament. They come into the field with a veteran team looking to go out with a bang.
St. Bonaventure finished the 2021-22 regular season with a 20-9 record, while going 12-5 in Atlantic 10 play.
Mark Schmidt‘s team is averaging 70.1 points per game on 45.1% shooting, while allowing just 66.3 points per game. Kyle Lofton leads one of the more well-blended starting lineups in the country when you factor in size, guard play and experience.
Colorado Buffaloes
The Buffaloes hit their stride down the stretch, and a double-digit victory over Arizona did all but punch their ticket to the Big Dance. Their non-conference resume wasn't enough, but they have a chance to keep their momentum going at home here.
Colorado finished the 2021-22 regular season with a 21-11 record, while going 12-8 in Pac-12 play.
Tad Boyle's team plays a hard-nosed still, averaging 71.2 points per game on 44.2% shooting, while allowing 67.2 points per game. Jabari Walker has grown into a nightly double-double threat this season, leading the team in both scoring (14.9) and rebounding (9.4).
BETTING TRENDS
SBU is 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games.
Bonnies are 2-4 SU in their last 6 games.
COL is 3-2 ATS in their last 5 games.
Buffaloes are 3-3 SU in their last 6 games.
Prediction
It's so hard to overlook the talent St. Bonaventure's brings to the floor, but it's also hard to trust a team that underperformed when its mattered the most. Colorado's win over Arizona very well should have punched their ticket to March Madness, but a home first round tournament game isn't a terrible consolation prize. An angry group of Buffaloes may just take care of business on their home floor this evening.
Take Colorado's spread for this first round battle.
