We'll receive another annual edition of the Sunshine Showdown when the Florida Gators host the Florida State Seminoles this Sunday.
Florida State got off to an strong start with a massive victory over an experienced Penn Quakers team. The Seminoles shot nearly 50% percent from the field as a unit en route to a 105-70 win.
Florida also got off to a fast start with a strong win over Elon. The Gators took a 23-point lead into the locker room, but they failed to cover the lofty 19-point margin en route to a 74-61 season opening victory.
Milwaukee opened the season with a road win over North Dakota, but they enter this one on the heels of a home loss to Eastern Kentucky.
The Panthers are led offensively by true freshman Patrick Baldwin Jr. The 6'9 swingman has scored 20+ points in his first two games, and grabbed double digit rebounds as well.
Guards DeAndre Gholston and Josh Thomas both average double figures as well, with the latter leading the team in FG percentage (64.7).
The Panthers lack of size may give them a bit of trouble here.
The Gators were finally able to take down in-state rival Florida State last time out. The Gators trailed at halftime, before taking off and defeating the Seminoles for the first time in eight years, 71-55.
Myreon Jones transferred in from Penn State and got straight to work. The senior guard hit four threes, paced the Gators with 20 points, and grabbed six rebounds in the season opening win against Elon.
Colin Castleton and Anthony Duruji give the Gators a sound, experienced front court. Castleton posted a monster 16-point, 15-rebound double-double against FSU, while Duruji scored 15 points and grabbed seven boards.
Senior guard Tyree Appleby joins Jones in the backcourt after a solid first season in Gainesville. The former Cleveland State guard scored 14 points in the opener, while hitting three treys.
Now Florida could very well blow Milwaukee out at home, but with both teams capable of putting points on the board, we like the manageable number here for the total. The Gators should handle heavy lifting here, while Milwaukee's trio should eek out enough offensively to cover the number here.
Take the over for this one, and monitor the Gators spread at home.
PICK: Florida -17.5 (-110)
