Preview
A Women’s Bantamweight fight is on tap, as ranked fighters Aspen Ladd and Macy Chiasson clash. Originally, the two were supposed to fight in July, but Chiasson pulled out with an injury. It only prolonged Ladd’s anticipated return, as the Bantamweight contender has not fought since December of 2019. Ladd however, remains very much in play to fight Amanda Nunes sooner than later. Meanwhile, Chiasson enters this fight on a two-fight win streak. The Ultimate Fighter 28 winner has looked promising, going 5-1 in her six UFC fights. A win over Ladd would certainly catapult her into potentially a title eliminator fight.
Prediction
This is excellent matchmaking, as both women represent a fresh contender for Bantamweight Champion Amanda Nunes. In a division in which the Champion has cleaned, this fight seemingly is bigger than what it appears. Now, I’m not saying that the winner of this fight is next in line. However, I do think they have a case to be. If not, a title eliminator would be all but next for either. Ladd is a well rounded fighter, who is physically one of the strongest Bantamweights on the roster. That strength aids her in taking opponents down, and landing some of the best ground-and-pound in the division. In other words, Ladd is a problem. Chiasson is a striker, who specializes in beating up opponents in the clinch. With a size advantage over most, Chiasson likes to bully her foe against the cage, landing knees and strikes.
As for a prediction, I have Ladd winning. The Californian is one of the best fighters in this division. Unfortunately, Ladd has seen inactivity and injuries halt her from being in title contention. Of course, the loss to Germaine de Randamie hurt, but the dominance she displayed in her other four UFC fights can’t be overlooked. I mean, she finished three of those fights via stoppage. In the end, I foresee Ladd getting back on the horse, ultimately finishing Chiasson in the third round via TKO.
PICK: Aspen Ladd (-210)
