The Tigers and Pirates face off tonight for the last game in this 3 game series. The Pirates have taken both games so far, winning 6-3, and 3-2. Both teams come into this game with no chance to make the post season. Both teams come into this game struggling going 3-7 in their last 10 games as bad pitching and offense have been their downfall. Both teams will continue to get looks at their younger prospects while they try to win some games to wrap up the season.
Matt Manning (3-6, 6.29 ERA) will be on the bump for the Tigers when they take on the Pirates tonight. Mannning enters this game with a 1.60 WHIP and 5.81 XFIP. The young right hander comes into this game with a very low 11.9% strikeout rate paired with a 7.1% walk rate. Manning has been very mediocre this year since being called up. He hasn't been able to bring his strikeout upside with him to the big leagues and has had a rough time keeping the power and contact department of opposing hitters in check. He will continue to try and figure things out in this start against the Pirates.
Mitch Keller (4-10, 6.23 ERA) will take the mound tonight against the visiting Tigers. Keller comes into this game with a 1.74 WHIP and 5.14 XFIP. This season he carries a 20.8% strikeout rate paired with a high 10.4% walk rate. Keller has had some ups and downs this year, but its mainly been the downs. He comes in walking too many hitters while allowing premium hard contact to both sides of the plate. He comes into this game off one of his better starts of the year where he went 6 innings, while striking out 8 hitters in shut out ball against the Cubs. Keller will look to build off that start tonight against the Tigers.
When looking at the underlying numbers one would expect this game to easily hit the over. Both pitchers have been poor this season, along with both offenses. I expect this to be another low scoring affair and I think both starting pitchers can find some excess against these weaker offenses.
PICK: Under 9 (-115)
