Preview
The Chicago White Sox and the Cincinnati Reds will play game two of their back-to-back this evening. Chicago jumped out to a three-run lead last night and didn't look back, picking up the 7-1 win.
The Reds have enjoyed a good season, but with St. Louis clinching the final NL Wild Card spot last night, their season is coming to a close. Nick Castellanos had a career season at the plate, while veteran Joey Votto rediscovered his power at the plate. They'll be right back in thick of the NL Central picture next season.
The White Sox have punched their tickets to the postseason and their locking into playoff form. Chicago has won five of their last seven, and their finally getting healthy at the plate. They may just keep things going tonight with their ace on the bump.
Pitching matchup
Reds
Sonny Gray (7-8, 3.99 ERA) will take the mound for Cinci. The ninth-year pitcher has been solid in his three road bouts. Gray pitched very well in St. Louis despite picking up a loss, only giving up two runs over seven innings of work. His last road start in Chicago, albeit against the Cubs, Gray struck out eight batters in five innings.
White Sox
Carlos Rodon (12-5, 2.47 ERA) will start for Chicago. The seventh-year pitcher has returned from his DL stint fresh, and he looks ready for Fall baseball. He's won four of his last five starts, and he struck out seven in his last home start against Boston.
Prediction
With Cincinnati having little to play for, Chicago's run line feels like another play here. Four different White Sox hit homers last night, and while things won't be as easy this evening with Sonny Gray, they've really got it going right now. Take the White Sox run line, and eye the manageable over.
PICK: Chicago White Sox -1.5
