Preview
The Milwaukee Brewers will host the Cincinnati Reds for a three-game set. The Brewers lead the season series 9-8, but the Reds do own a pair of three game win streaks, including a three-game sweep on the road in June.
The Reds are fresh off of a four-game sweep of the Miami Marlins, and they generously covered the run line all four times. They currently sit in the final NL Wild Card playoff spot, but with the Padres and Cardinals less than a handful of games behind them, Cinci can't take a sweep here on the road.
The Brewers have locked in and after winning two games in each of their past five three-game sets, the Brewers now rest comfortably atop the NL Central with a seven-game lead. A vicious four-game series in the Bay with San Fran awaits the Brew Crew so they'll need to keep the momentum going here, as that set could have playoff seeding implications
Pitching Matchup
Reds
Tyler Mahle (10-4, 3.78 ERA) will get the call for Cincinnati. The fourth-year pitcher began the season in peak form, before a rough month of July slowed him down. He faced Milwaukee twice during that stretch, delivering mixed results. Mahle struck out six over six innings in the road bout, but gave up five runs in just five innings in the home start. That's a solid sample, but Mahle could very well flip the script this Tuesday.
Brewers
Corbin Burnes (11-3, 2.13 ERA) will take the mound for Milwaukee. The fourth-year pitcher is the favorite to win the NL Cy Young Award, as he's been phenomenal and consistent this season. In his road start against the Reds last month he put on a show, tossing a whopping twelve strikeouts over eight innings, while giving up zero runs. We don't expect a repeat performance, but Burnes could likely dominate again at home.
Prediction
We have another good round of NL Central baseball incoming. All five times have either blessed or stunned bettors at some point within the past three months, and this one will paint a potent Reds lineup as appealing underdogs. Tonight may not be the night to tinker with them with Burnes on the bump. Aside from De Grom, Burnes has been the best picture in the big leagues. Another 12-K performance against Nick Castellanos and company seems unlikely, but we do expect him to show up on his own turf here. The under looks appealing, but the run line does as well. Trust Burnes on the mound, and bet the Milwaukee run line tonight.
PICK: Milwaukee Brewers -1.5 (+110)
