Preview
Baseball is back! and a division battle will take place at the Nationals Park when the renewed New York Mets visit the Washington Nationals in what will be their first game of the 2022 Major League Baseball Season.
NEW YORK METS
The Mets have improved their roster and line up adquiring Max Scherzer from the Dodgers, Starling Marte who had a .310 avg, 12 HR and 55 RBI in the last season, Mark Canha who had a .231 at bat, 17 HR and 61 RBI and they will count again with Robinson Cano. Offensively the team averaged 3.93 runs per game and they have the powerful Pete Alonso who averaged .262 at bat, 37 HR and 94 RBI. The great hitter Francisco Lindor with a .230 avg, 20 homers and 63 RBI. Lindor had a poor debut with the Mets last season but he should be one of the best at bat this year.
Probable Pitcher:
Tyler Megill (0-0, 0.0 ERA) The young pitcher had a record of 4-6 with an ERA of 4.52 and 99 strikeouts in 18 appearances for the Mets in his rookie season in 2021. Across two appearances (one start) this spring, Megill allowed five hits and five walks while striking out seven in 6.2 scoreless frames.
WASHINGTON NATIONALS
Washington went 65-97 overall and 35-46 at home last season. The Nationals pitching staff had a collective 4.83 ERA while averaging 8.7 strikeouts per nine innings in the 2021 season. They averaged 4.47 runs per game and their best hitters were had a .313 batting average with 157 hits, 29 homers, 95 RBIs and 111 runs scored in 151 games and Trea Turner who was sold to the Red Sox for this season, He had a batting average of .322 with 125 hits, 18 homers, 49 RBIs and 66 runs scored in 96 games for the Nationals in 2021.
The Nats sold many key parts of their core from the 2019 World Series so they'll be in a rebuilding season this year.
Probable Pitcher:
Patrick Corbin (0-0, 0-0 ERA) will be on the mound for the Nationals in the opening day. He had a 9-16 record with an ERA of 5.82 and 143 strikeouts in 31 appearances for the Nationals in 2021. In his last 3 games against the Mets he's 1-1-1 with a 3.00 ERA, 1.68 WHIP and 14 strikeouts in 17 innings pitched.
BETTING TRENDS
NY Mets are 8-3 SU in their last 11 games against Washington.
NY Mets are 1-9 SU in their last 10 games on the road.
Washington are 1-6 SU in their last 7 games at home.
The total has gone UNDER in 4 of Washington's last 6 games.
Prediction
I really like this Mets team and I think they can go far on this season, the opposite to the Nationals who will be looking to rebuild the team around Juan Soto and be better contenders for the next season. With Megill on the mound the Mets will prolly allow some runs but the lineup should respond. I'm taking the Mets to get their first win on the road.
