The Giants take their MLB leading 88-50 record to Coors Field for game two of a three-game tilt against the division rival Colorado Rockies. San Francisco is coming off a huge 2-1 series win against the Dodgers which kept them in 1st place in the NL West and kept the Dodgers trailing by a game and in the wild card spot. The Giants won the opening game 10-5 last night and are trending upwards with four wins in their last five as they face a Rockies team who sit 4th in the division and are on the verge of playoff elimination. The Rockies split their last series 2-2 with the Braves but are currently on a two-game losing streak. They currently trail this series 1-0.
Logan Webb (8-3, 2.56 ERA) Logan Webb will take the ball first up for the Giants. The right-handed pitcher is in the third year in the majors and has an ERA of 2.56 which is his career-best. In his rookie season in 2019, his ERA was 5.22 and in 2020 5.47. Webb has already faced the Rockies three times this season and has an ERA of 5.52 in those games. He pitched 14.2 innings and had 9 ERs off 14 hits.
Chi Chi Gonzalez (3-6, 6.13 ERA) Chi Chi Gonzalez will get his 18th start of the season. He has a WHIP of 1.46 and an ERA of 6.13 in 2021. His best ERA came back in his rookie season in 2015 when he averaged 3.90. Gonzalez has played the Giants twice already for the season pitching ten innings and surrendering four ERs off 11 hits. He also struck out five batters and walked three.
The Giants coming off of their defeat of the Dodgers now have full control of the division and are looking to wrap up the NL West with only a few games left in the regular season. I expect them to have too much firepower for the Rockies.
