Preview
The Cardinals are back at the American Family Field for game two of their four-game divisional series against the Brewers. The Cards won game one last night 5-2 to take a 1-0 lead in the series and are on an impressive nine-game winning streak which includes back-to-back sweeps of the Mets and then the Padres in their last two matchups. Their bats have been red-hot in that nine-game stretch averaging 6.33 runs per game. St. Louis still sits 11.5 games off of the Brewers in the NL Central, but their recent run of wins has put them in pole position to claim the final Wild Card spot after the Dodgers locked up the first. The Brewers have already clinched a playoff spot and will look to bounce after last night's loss which now sees them on a two-game losing run.
Pitching matchup
Cardinals
Jake Woodford (2-3, 4.30 ERA) Jake Woodford is scheduled to start his 6th game of the season for St. Louis tonight. Woodford, who's in his second season in the majors, has a 4.30 ERA and 1.39 WHIP in 2021 following a 5.37 ERA in his rookie campaign in 2020. He's faced the Brewers twice already this season pitching 7 innings and surrendering only 3 hits for no ERs and had 7 strikeouts and 2 walks.
Brewers
Brandon Woodruff (9-9, 2.55 ERA) Fifth-year pitcher Brand Woodruff is expected to take the mound first for Milwaukee. In his five years in Milwaukee, Woodruff is seeing his best ERA in 2021 of 2.55 in what is so far his busiest season playing 28 games and pitching 169.1 innings. He's 0-1 against the Cards this season in two games with 7 hits given up over 12.2 innings resulting in 3 ERs added to 14 strikeouts and 2 walks.
Prediction
The Cardinals have been too hot to contain recently and the Brewers have been in some high-scoring affairs recently. This looks like a similar outing for both these clubs with the over / under set at 8.
PICK: Over 8 (-104)
