Preview
The Brewers will be traveling to Minnesota to take on the twins today. The Brewers are currently atop in the NL Central while the Twins sit at the bottom of the AL Central. The Twins have been disappointing this year after a few promising years coming into this season.
The brew crew will look to try and gain some momentum with the post season approaching. They have gone 3-2 in their last 5 games, losing yesterday to this Twins team in the first game of the series.
The Twins come limping into this game trying to find something to get them going. They are 2-3 in their last 5 games, taking one from the Brewers last night in a 2-0 win. The pitching for the Twins has been their main downfall this year along with injuries to some of their better hitters.
Pitching Matchup
Twins
Charlie Burnes (0-3, 6.56 ERA) will take the mound and look to improve is season. He boasts a terrible 1.63 WHIP and 6.82 XFIP. He comes in with a low 10% strikeout rate and a high walk rate coming in close to 10% BB. He’s been getting hit extremely hard and giving up some premium contact. He will have his work cut out for him in this one when he takes on the Brewers.
Brewers
Adrian Houser (7-5, 3.44) will be on the mound for the Brewers today. He comes in to this game with a 1.33 WHIP and 4.63 XFIP. Houser is a ground ball pitcher who induces soft contact. He has a mediocre 19% strikeout rate and a high 11.2% walk rate. The twins will put the ball in play and if Houser limit walks and keep the ball on the ground he should find some success.
Prediction
Although the Twins still have some powerful veteran bats, I don’t see them being able to pull this one off today. Burnes as been terrible and I don’t expect that to change against the NL Central leading Brewers. Houser should be able to keep the ball on the ground and induce soft contact to keep the Twins power bats at bay.
PICK: Brewers -1.5 (-102)
