Preview
The Washington State Cougars will host the Utah Utes at the Mountaineer Field at the Clarence D. Martin Stadium on Thursday night. These teams faced each last season and the Utes beat the Cougars 24-13 in Utah but failed to cover as -15 points favorites.
Utah Utes
The Utes get here with a 5-2 record after beating the USC Trojans 43-42 at home. Rising threw for 415 yards, ran for three touchdowns and scampered up the middle for a go-ahead two-point conversion with 48 seconds left. Dalton Kincaid had 16 catches for 234 yards, the most for a Ute since Carl Harry had 255 yards in 1988.
The Defense have struggled in the last games vs USC and UCLA but we gotta say those are two powerful offenses, still the Utes are allowing 22 points per game and have been good against the pass allowing 200 yards but allow 142 rushing yards.
Washington State Cougars
The Cougars are 4-3 so far this season after losing against the Oregon State Beavers on the road 24-10 last Saturday. Washington State ran just six offensive plays for one yard in the first quarter. The Cougars were more effective offensively in the second quarter, but still trailed 10-3 at halftime. Ward continues to flash big-play capability, but the Cougars couldn't generate a consistent running game and were too one-dimensional. Leading rusher Nakia Watson and starting wide receiver Renard Bell were held out due to injuries sustained in last week's loss at USC and will be out for this one too.
Defensively, Washington State is doing a good job and allows 20 points per game but they have been outscored by the last 2 ranked teams they have faced so they gotta make a big effort if they want to stop one of the tough offenses in the country.
